    Citation Excerpt :

However, characteristic features in SIDS victims may include intrathoracic petechiae,15 abnormal organ weight differences (enlarged thyroid gland, encephalomegaly, microcardia, and light kidneys),16 unclotted blood in the chambers of the heart, and an empty bladder and rectum.17 A genetic basis for CCHS was initially hypothesized based on identified cases with familial recurrence of the disease.18-23 Association with HSCR (Haddad syndrome) (known to have a genetic basis in at least 2 cases) and tumors of neural crest origin further indicated a neural crest origin and a likely genetic basis for CCHS.
