A clonal dic(16;21)(p13.1;p11.2)del(16)(q11.1), with gains of several chromosomes and monosomy 21, in a case of splenic hamartoma: Evidence for its neoplastic, not hamartomatous, origin
2005, Cancer Genetics and CytogeneticsCitation Excerpt :Presence of a clonal chromosomal abnormality in our case of splenic hamartoma favors a neoplastic, not a hamartomatous, process. It is noteworthy that two other lesions traditionally considered to be of hamartomatous origin, pulmonary chondroid hamartoma [8–11] and mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver [12–15], are also benign neoplasms. It has been proposed that pulmonary chondroid hamartoma results from transformation of primitive mesenchymal cells that differentiate along chondroid, adipose and smooth muscle pathways [10].
