Prospective Evaluation of Aortic Dimensions in Turner Syndrome: A 2-Dimensional Echocardiographic Study
2007, Journal of the American Society of EchocardiographyCitation Excerpt :Although the ascending/descending aortic ratio on MRI avoids the problem of adjusting AR measurements for height deficit, this measurement may be affected by presence and frequency of aortic coarctation in the population of patients with TS studied.18 Considering the linear relationship we observed between AR diameters and BSA in our population, the AR may be considered to be dilated when its measurement exceeds the 95% confidence limit of the normal population, as proposed by Roman et al.25 Using this method, our study confirms that female patients with TS have a greatly increased risk of aortic disease.6-15 The 20% prevalence of AR dilatation in our population is close to the prevalence of 29% reported by Elsheikh20 in the 38 patients with TS studied normalizing AR diameters according to BSA.
