2017, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :The link between Mest and Wnt signaling involved the finding that Mest could enhance the phosphorylation and degradation of β-catenin (Jung et al., 2011) and thus was thought to be a negative modulator of Wnt signaling. Mest is a maternally imprinted mammalian gene located in mouse chromosome 6 and band B1 that is expressed in different tissues of both adult and early embryos (Riesewijk et al., 1997; Hahn et al., 2005). In early embryos, Mest expression is found in amnion, brain, heart, lung, stomach, gut, adrenal, kidney, muscle and liver tissues (Nishita et al., 1996).
