The HV2 tract consists of a run of 12 to 18 cytosines interrupted by a thymine at nucleotide 310. Heteroplasmy is common in individuals with more than eight cytosines before the thymine. The maternal HV2 genotype was 13C/14C (patients 1, 2, 4) or 12C/13C (patient 3).
