↵i The FDA highlighted potential problems resulting from inaccurate results and misunderstandings, including inappropriate follow-up procedures and mismanagement of health should there be false positive or false negative results (eg, for BRCA), as well as if consumers decided to self-manage medication doses (ie, warfarin) “… serious concerns are raised if test results are not adequately understood by patients or if incorrect test results are reported.” (FDA letter, November 2013).
↵ii An uncertain situation is a situation where the outcomes are not entirely known and might cause distress. For some individuals, anxiety results from uncertainty about future conditions, whereas for others the extent of certainty of specific future health states constitutes anxiety.3
