This is because these mice lack the cell death pathway mediated through the engagement of Fas-FasL [40,41], suggesting that the immune modulation exerted by Hm might operate through activation-induced cell death of lymphocytes. Although the precise suppressive mechanisms are not fully understood, induction of regulatory T cells is a likely candidate.
