Age threshold for proper definition of premature coronary artery disease in males
2018, Journal of Forensic and Legal MedicineCitation Excerpt :Also, whether the age threshold for premature CHD is fixed in successive generations of the same population or is subjected to change, one cannot find a direct, easy answer to these questions. Extensive epidemiological studies have shown that a family history of CHD is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease.11–15 Apart from exposure to shared environmental risk factors, premature atherosclerosis is usually explained due to the genetic inheritance of risk factors.

2013, International Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :Coronary atherosclerosis is influenced by various environmental and genetic factors. Family history of premature CAD is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular diseases [11,12]. In patients with a history of premature CAD, genetic susceptibility and possible novel cardiovascular risk factors causing premature atherosclerosis may play role in the progression of early atherosclerotic process.
