The extended original sample (53 pedigrees) represents the original sample plus 128 newly recruited subjects, who still belong to the original 53 pedigrees. The extended sample (79 pedigrees) represents the 1816 subjects of 79 pedigrees; it is composed of the 630 subjects of the original sample, 128 subjects who are newly recruited but still belong to the original 53 pedigree, and 1058 subjects who are newly recruited and make up the 26 new pedigrees.
